Tattoo artists embark on an adventure together. A few days away from the city. Working together. Creating a space. This is the concept of Nepalinked. We started Nepalinked in 2013 using the standard convention/expo structure. For three days of tattooing, music, and art, we gathered everyone under one roof in a sizable exhibition hall. Since Nepal was still healing from the Great Earthquake it had in April, we did not host the event in 2015. We made an effort to do it differently in 2016. We conducted the entire event outdoors, but the production costs were too costly, and our schedules were too busy to work on both the mainstream and commercial levels. And we came to the conclusion that it wasn’t what we had in mind. We decided to take a step back in the midst of the commercialization of tattooing and the unclear expansion of conventions. We wanted to preserve more space for art and artists because we do not identify with the aforementioned commercialization. Furthermore, we want to produce something that is in keeping with Nepal’s context, which is more about nature, landscape, spirituality, and traditions. And it’s more about love, tattoo and art. We made the decision to depart from Kathmandu and take the guests on a trip outside the city. Since 2017, we have completely modified the way Nepalinked is run by moving it outside into the natural environment. We set up large working tents with plenty of room for workspace and all the essential workspace amenities. The team of Nepalinked aspires to create an alternative space for more personal interaction between tattoo artists and their works.
